Abundance index
The Sicilian Region, specifically the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries, has approved an integration to the 2024-2025 hunting calendar which concerns the hare. From the monitoring activity carried out, it emerged that the relative abundance index of the species in the territory is such as to allow for the experimental sampling planned and measured in different ATCs and districts.
Who will make the withdrawals
The overall experimental collection of 365 individuals of Italian hare, equal to 3,8 - 5% (on average 4,4%) depending on the minimum size estimated in the ATCs considered, will be carried out exclusively by specially selected, trained and qualified hunters, regularly admitted to hunt on an experimental basis, of the XCaccia APP "digital card" (additional to the paper one) for real-time communication of individual collections. The period considered goes from 23 October, therefore tomorrow, until 30 November, in any case until reaching the maximum collection plan of 365 individuals, with the daily bag limit for each authorised hunter of one head.
ATCs in detail
The distribution of the hares already mentioned is quickly said:
– ATC AG1: n.45 Italian hares, in the municipalities of Montallegro and Ribera;
– ATC AG2: n.51 Italian hares, in the municipalities of Racalmuto and Licata;
– ATC CT1: n.81 Italian hares, in the municipalities of Castel di Iudica, Ramacca and Mineo;
– ATC ME1: n.40 Italian hares, in the municipalities of Militello Rosmarino, Sant'Agata di Militello,
Castel of Lucio, Cesarò, Militello Rosemary, Mistretta, Motta d'Affermo,
Pettineo, Saint Brother, Saint Theodore, Saint Agatha of Militello, Tusa, Capizzi,
Cesarò and San Teodoro;
– ATC PA1: n.24 Italian hares, in the municipalities of Camporeale, San Giuseppe Jato and Monreale with southern limit placed on the SP 20;
– ATC PA2: n.70 Italian hares, in the municipalities of Pollina, S. Mauro Castelverde, Castelbuono and Termini Imerese (bordered to the north by the A29 and to the east by the Torto River);
– ATC SR2: n.54 Italian hares, in the municipalities of Rosolini and Noto, limited to the sector north of the A18 “Siracusa-Gela” motorway.
