Migrants' stopover
Federcaccia presented two videos regarding hunting lakes permanent ones in central Italy, one in Umbria and one in the Marche, where groups of hunters have built and manage these places at their own expense, which offer suitable habitat for migratory birds to stop, for their feeding and, we will see later, for the nesting of some species.
The film specimens
In the first video, filmed in Umbria, we can see Northern Shovelers and a Garganey resting on their northward migration, along with several Coots that will likely remain to nest. In the second video, in addition to the pair of Mallards, we can admire a Black-tailed Godwit resting on a small island in the lake in the Marche region.
Biological value
These habitats enhance the biological value of agricultural and often human-influenced environments, thanks solely to hunting, which, it should be noted, lasts only four months of the year, while these habitats are suitable for birdlife for 12 months, obviously even more so during the eight-month closed season. This further confirms the indisputable role of hunting as a tool for biodiversity, enhancing the biological value of our country.
