The lake featured in the film
La pre-nuptial migration It's underway, and these days thousands of birds are making their way from Africa and the Mediterranean to Northern Europe and Russia for the breeding season. Stopping to recharge their batteries through rest and feeding is important for a safe journey and subsequent successful nesting. In this video, a permanent hunting lake in Tuscany provides a resting place for various duck species that would otherwise struggle to find suitable feeding grounds and freshwater.
Gadwalls, shovelers and teals
The lake is located not far from the Diaccia Botrona Marsh, which currently suffers from salinization and thus a decline in biodiversity. Gadwalls and northern shovelers can be observed, and the song of teals can be heard.
Biodiversity at risk
These habitats, present in many Italian regions, increase the presence of aquatic birds, often in areas where biodiversity is threatened by construction and intensive agriculture. Federcaccia hopes for greater institutional recognition of the value of these environments, whose creation and conservation should be encouraged in Italian and European policies (source: Federcaccia).
