Sentence overturned
Better late than never. It may be a small one, but it is still a consolation that a 51-year-old man living in Sardinia who in 2025 was accused of failure to store one's hunting riflesThe Tempio Pausania Court recently acquitted him, and the nightmare ended relatively quickly (considering we're in Italy). It all began following a theft in Loiri Porto San Paolo, a scattered municipality in the Gallura province of northeastern Sardinia.
The home burglary episode
A year ago, two minors broke into the man's home after forcing the lock, also managing to do so with the safe that held the 51-year-old's hunting rifles. Not content with that, the young criminals filmed videos with the weapons, later circulating them among their peers to boast about what they claimed was a feat. The theft also involved a knife and a variety of ammunition. The two minors were reported, as was the man, who was charged with neglect of custody.
The fact does not exist
The court, however, didn't see it that way. The acquittal was granted with a very clear clarification: the crime was not true. Indeed, as confirmed by the 51-year-old's lawyer, the weapons were stored in a locked safe, and the thieves gained access only after forcing the lock on the house and the safe itself, circumstances that supported the man's necessary precautions.
