Traced calendar
The Regional Council ofUmbria, on the recommendation of Simona Meloni, Councillor for Hunting, has adopted the proposal for the 2026/2027 Regional Hunting Calendar, developed by the Regional Department for Hunting and Fishing together with the relevant technical offices. "The proposed Hunting Calendar approved by the Regional Council, which will now undergo the consultation process required by current regulations, is a solid document with guarantees for the entire hunting community," emphasized Councilor Simona Meloni. "It mirrors last year's Calendar, which, I would like to point out, was not challenged. Our region boasts a deep hunting tradition. For this reason, in developing the new Calendar, we have applied great technical attention and engaged in constant dialogue with all stakeholders. The result is a balanced document that complies with current regulations while simultaneously ensuring the protection of biodiversity and the sustainability of hunting activities. We continue to pursue a shared path, which confirms the Region's role as a liaison between the needs of the hunting community and environmental and territorial concerns."
Faunal-Hunting Council
The proposed General Hunting Calendar, developed by the Wildlife Planning and Management, Plant Protection and Production Protection Service, has been submitted to the Regional Wildlife and Hunting Council and requires the consultation of the opinions required by current legislation from the Third Permanent Council Commission, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), and the National Wildlife and Hunting Technical Committee. The general hunting season is scheduled to begin on September 20, 2026, the third Sunday of the month, in accordance with Article 18 of Law 157/1992. This decision aims to spread hunters' presence across a larger area during the first few days of the hunt, avoiding the concentration of hunting pressure on just a few species.
Selective hunting of deer and bovids
The proposed hunting calendar for selective hunting of deer and bovids was also approved, following the ISPRA guidelines for the management of ungulates (No. 91/2013). The proposed hunting schedules are in line with the technical and scientific indications provided by ISPRA, ensuring sustainable management of these species' populations. The proposal takes into account the changes introduced by EU Directive 147/2009 and the conservation measures approved by the Regional Council for the management of Special Protection Areas (SPAs), ensuring compliance with EU obligations and the protection of natural habitats. The proposed hunting calendars will now be forwarded to the Third Permanent Council Commission, ISPRA, and the National Wildlife and Hunting Technical Committee for the required opinions.
