The future motion
As they are eaten in all parts of the world, as in France with the 'pâté de ragondin' on the menus of the best restaurants, as in Patagonia where nutria is a national dish"In Veneto too, coypu must be promoted as happened with the blue crab: next week I will propose a motion to the relevant councilors to make coypu useful for this project." This was stated by Stefano Valdegamberi, regional councilor for Veneto, elected from the Lega party, speaking on Radio Veneto24.
Better than processed meat
"Nutria is much better than processed meat," analyzes Valdegamberi, who filmed himself a few weeks ago eating a sort of nutria stew at a friend's house. "It's a rodent that feeds on roots and berries and is a very clean animal.
From problem to opportunity
It's a low-fat, healthy meat, suitable for diets: I'd like to turn this problem into an opportunity. In the motion, I'll request the same circular issued for blue crab, to allow its marketing and use in the food processing industry. A nutria fillet in France costs 30-40 euros; its economic value is yet to be explored.
