The meeting between the leaders of the regional Association concluded in Florence Federcaccia Toscana-UCT and the center-right candidate for regional president, Alessandro Tomasi. On this occasion, the Association also emphasized the importance of open discussion—including on hunting issues—with the respective political parties, as the election campaign draws to a close. Before a large representation of the leadership group, Marco Salvadori, Regional President of Federcaccia Toscana-UCT, thanked the candidate for his attention to the Association and outlined the main issues that will affect the subject in the next legislative session.
Reform of hunting
"Hunting is going through a delicate and unique moment in our country," Salvadori stated. "The ongoing debate in Parliament on amending national law 157/92, despite opposing extremism, can also represent a useful opportunity to strengthen the role and responsibilities of the regions. A profound rethinking of the resource system will be necessary—starting with an appropriate transfer of part of the government concession fee to the regions—as well as a new structure of the tasks and functions of the ATCs, and to foster a virtuous pact between farmers and hunters, focused on environmental restoration to increase biodiversity. These and other issues will also need to be interpreted at a regional level, starting with the rapid approval and implementation of the new wildlife hunting plan. On this last point, we ask for your willingness to listen to our Association's requests to achieve an overall improvement to the text."
Protection of agricultural production
Finally, Salvadori also emphasized the need to recognize hunting as a useful tool for managing and conserving wildlife as a collective asset, declaring: "Hunting as an activity is also legitimate for its environmental function, not just for the necessary interventions to control populations that impact agricultural production." Presidential candidate Alessandro Tomasi, for his part, emphasized the center-right's commitment to issues related to rural life and hunting, confirming his willingness to engage in open and constructive dialogue.
