The meeting in Florence
Water management, ungulate emergency and giving greater value to Tuscan agricultural products. These were the priorities recalled by the president of Cia-Italian Farmers Tuscany, Valentino Berni, in the meeting that took place in recent days at Palazzo Guadagni Sacrati Strozzi, in Florence, headquarters of the Tuscany Region, with the president Eugenio Giani and with the vice-president and councilor for agriculture Stefania Saccardi.
The centrality of the agricultural enterprise
Difficulties and proposals that can be included in an "agriculture package" as highlighted by Giani and Saccardi. The meeting was attended by the director of Cia Toscana, Giordano Pascucci, the regional vice-presidents and the members of the Executive Committee of Cia Toscana, the provincial directors and the regional secretaries of Agia, Donne in Campo and ANP. An opportunity to affirm, once again, the centrality of the agricultural enterprise and its income, underlining the need that the sector needs for concrete responses and interventions suited to the situation and contingencies, also because those undertaken to date at various levels, are deficient, partial and insufficient.
Not just wild boars
In particular, regarding the wildlife situation, Cia Toscana highlighted how: “The geography of agriculture in Tuscany is changing due to the pressure of animals, wild boars and recently also wolves - said Berni -. The number of hunters is decreasing, the pressure on wild boar is not decreasing and then we have ASF (African swine fever) at the gates of our region. Taking the Objective Law back into your hands and being at the top of the class to try to reach the objective: moving the hunting period is starting to be fundamental. Furthermore, implement the possibility of self-defense on the part of farmers, also push for ATC for cages, intensive culling, simplify bureaucracy" (source: CIA).
