Open call
The Piedmont regional call for applications is now open, allowing Piedmontese farmers to apply for compensation for livestock killed by large carnivores between January 1st and June 30th, 2026. The Piedmont Region will provide 100% compensation—a percentage that increases by 15% for pregnant animals—for livestock killed by large carnivores (wolf, bear, jackal, lynx) in the first half of 2026.
The value of the garments
The news was announced by Councilor for Agriculture and Food Paolo Bongioanni, who explained: "We are able to fully compensate our farmers thanks to €534 that I recovered from the 2025 program, to which I was able to add €210 in fresh resources. This provides a total of €744, covering 100% of the value of livestock killed by large carnivores in Piedmont during the first half of 2026. This result meets the requests of our farmers and trade associations. It strengthens the protection of our livestock heritage, the basis of so many excellent agri-food products—from PDO cheeses to premium meats—and contributes to the economic sustainability of farmers who choose to remain in order to protect and safeguard inland and marginal areas and the regional hydrogeological and landscape structure."
Other aids
The measure also provides assistance to Piedmont beekeepers registered in the National Database who have not obtained insurance coverage and who have suffered damage from bears. This includes reimbursement of 80% of veterinary expenses for animals injured during a predatory event, and a lump-sum payment for production losses related to the same events. Applications must be submitted by October 9th on the regional Nembo portal.
