Great importance
La International Day of Forests It is celebrated every March 21st and represents a fundamental moment to reflect on the importance of forests for our planet, too often forgotten.
The role of forests
Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, the day aims to highlight the fundamental role that forests play not only in providing timber and non-timber products (berries, mushrooms, resins, etc.), but also in providing ecosystem services such as erosion control, biodiversity conservation, climate regulation and in providing livelihoods to hundreds of millions of people.
Forests essential for survival
The theme of the 2025 Day, “Forests and Food“, highlights the crucial role of forests in food security, nutrition and livelihoods. In addition to providing food, fuel, income and employment, forests promote soil fertility, protect water resources and provide habitats for biodiversity, including important pollinators. They are essential for the survival of communities that depend on forests, especially indigenous peoples, and help mitigate climate change by storing carbon. (Source ISPRA)
