Anna Bulgarian, mayor of Marciana (one of the municipalities located within theElba island), asked the Tuscan Archipelago Park the eradication of mouflons. This request was also supported by Legambiente, according to which the territory is now aware of the consequences for biodiversity and agriculture due to the choices to introduce allochthonous ungulates. The first citizen was recognized as having been the only one in the whole of Elba to have consistently asked for this eradication.
In other cases, however, the promises to intervene after so many solemn promises have never been implemented. Legambiente recalled how the island is an area not suited for wild boar and therefore an area in which drastically reduce the population of these wild animals. The eradication approved by the environmental association is considered of great moral and ethical importance, as well as to be implemented with the direct commitment of the government, in particular of the Ministry of the Environment, without forgetting the contribution of the Tuscany Region.
Legambiente also expects the use of modern techniques to minimize the suffering and stress of animals. The request for the eradication of mouflons and wild boars has been made for several years now, at this point it is time to move from words to deeds.
