On June 18, the three Italian titles in the categories into which the sector is divided were awarded Paralympic shooting; Sitting, those who use the wheelchair, Standing 1 those who have problems with the lower limbs but can stand up, Standing 2 those who use only one upper limb. Over forty athletes who have honored this appointment, a movement in continuous growth thanks to Fitav represented by Ms. Emanuela Bonomi Croce who has been responsible for this sector for years, the federal technician Benedetto Barberini and Francesco Fazi as a member of the commission international IPC ..
This is the year of the turning point for the Paralympic shooting, it has finally been recognized by the IPC (International Paralympic Committee), among the Paralympic disciplines and consequently skeet shooting was admitted in the category of disciplines for disabled people, in the Olympic Pit specialty. It will be called Para-Trap and will be part of the IPC Shooting, the Paralympic shooting. The first competition, in honor of the Italian Shooting Federation which was the international promoter of this result, will be held in Italy in Lonato del Garda (BS) and is the World Cup on 15 and 16 September next, hosted at the structures of the Concaverde high speed train.
An all-Italian success, after 8 Italian championships and 6 international GPs, which are served to the Fitav and to the IPC to draw up a summary document of the research path carried out, also in terms of classifications and identification of the competition categories, a recognition of the value of Shooting as a sport, particularly appreciated in this moment which has seen the cancellation of the Double Trap from the Olympic disciplines for able-bodied and items related to laser shooting and various attacks on firearms. Returning to the competition, the Italian Championship was held with the ISSF regulations, on Saturday 17/06 the athletes shot the first 75 targets, on Sunday 18 the last 50 qualifying targets, followed by the finals in which the first six of each category participated. . The technical level grows considerably every year and it will not be easy for the Federal Coach Benedetto Barberini to identify the twelve (four per category) who will have to represent Italy at the first World Cup.
Standing Category 1 was dominated by Giorgio Marrozzini, with an amazing 122/125 in qualifying and a 44/50 in the final, on the podium in second place Massimo Lanza (43 in the final and in qualifying 110/125), third Alessandro Spagnoli ( 32 in the final and in qualifying 113/125). Standing Category 2, perhaps the most difficult and demanding, saw only 4 athletes, therefore all in the final, in this case the Italian Champion Elio Spadoni (24 in the final and in qualifying 96/125), according to Emilio Poli (21 in the final) and in qualifying 97/125), third Christian Ciocchi (14 in the final and in qualifying 88/125) and fourth Paolo Bortolin (11 in the final and in qualifying 79/125). Among the wheelchairs, Sitting category, the Sardinian Oreste Lai (42 in the final and 106/125 qualifying) won the tricolor championship, second place for Bruno Busti (34 in the final and 91/125 qualifying), third Pietro Boem ( 27 in the final and in qualifying 107/125), author of the best qualifying but who was unable to repeat himself in the final.
The presence of the multiple champion and coach of the Italian national team of Skeet was much appreciated by the athletes Andrew Benelli, who wanted to underline that he has learned, in recent days, a lot in terms of determination and competitive passion, values that he will surely pass on to his shooters and students. Benedetto Barberini wanted to remember Silvano Basagni, who for years was the true soul of TAV Laterina and how much he would have liked to have attended this race, unfortunately the disease was inexorable and took him away a month earlier. While recognizing the importance of the technical result, the great success is the constant and inexorable growth of the Paralympic shooting movement, a special thanks to the president of the Italian Paralympic Committee Luca Pancalli who, thanks to his commitment, has supported Fitav in this challenging path and to Beretta, official sponsor of international championships and GPs for four years. The next appointment is for 15 and 16 September in Lonato, where disabled athletes from all over the world will be present and we also hope for a large audience, certainly an unmissable opportunity to learn something from the tenacity and self-denial of those who have been most unfortunate. .
