The hearings held today by the Chamber of Deputies' Agriculture Committee have clearly revealed an indisputable fact: the agricultural community believes a revision of Law No. 157 of 1992 is urgently needed, given the serious damage caused by the uncontrolled proliferation of wild fauna. The Italian Hunting Federation expresses satisfaction with the positions expressed by CIA-Agricoltori Italiani, Confagricoltura, and Coldiretti, which highlighted the urgent need to adopt more appropriate regulatory instruments to address a situation that has been penalizing farms, rural areas, and public safety for years.
The words of the CIA and Confagricoltura
Particularly significant were the words of the CIA, which called the regulatory review "very important" and required "with the utmost urgency," denouncing an unsustainable situation for agricultural businesses, forced daily to suffer damage to their production by uncontrolled wild fauna. Confagricoltura cited data on the economic damage caused by wildlife, highlighting the severe impact on agriculture, the abandonment of land, and the loss of productive land, emphasizing that the bill addresses many of the requests made by the agricultural sector in recent years.
The position of Coldiretti
Coldiretti's position was even more clear, calling the controversy surrounding the measure "absurd." It emphasized that many of the criticisms leveled at the bill stem from a partial or superficial reading of the text, and reaffirmed the need to concretely address the problem of the uncontrolled presence of wild fauna. "Today's hearings confirm once again that the need to amend the current legislation does not arise from partisan interests, but from the realities of the local area and the demands of those who live and work daily in the Italian countryside," stated Massimo Buconi, National President of Federcaccia. "The recognition of the urgency of reform by the main agricultural organizations is an important signal. Wildlife management and the contribution of hunters are essential tools for ensuring environmental balance, protecting agricultural production, and safeguarding the land."
