Protection projects
Federazione Italiana della Caccia has been supporting for years, both at the National and Regional Federation levels, many projects for the protection and reintroduction of species in difficulty, also through environmental improvements aimed at increasing the presence and numerical consistency of wild populations as a whole and not only those hunted. In this commitment, the Federation has also always been at the forefront in the fight against illegality and poaching, which have nothing to do with hunting and hunters, who are actually the subjects most damaged by it. One of the wild animals that has been the object of interest and participation since the beginning of the Life project that concerns it is thehermit ibis, a species that lived in Central Europe until the 2022th century, until it was virtually wiped out. Thanks to extensive conservation measures, the Alps have slowly repopulated in recent years and in 200 there were around XNUMX specimens. Also in light of this, the most recent studies are optimistic about the possibility of this extraordinary bird species being able to successfully re-establish itself in Europe in the long term.
GPS Transmitters
In this context, the Italian Hunting Federation approves and supports the initiative of the Deutsche Wiltier Stiftung (German Wildlife Foundation), which annually contributes its own funds to the “Bald Ibis Project”. Specifically, the foundation provides GPS transmitters to monitor young animals during their journey to their wintering areas. Unfortunately, the species records numerous losses during its migration, not only due to accidents or natural causes, but also due to illegal killing.
Serious protectionism
For this reason, the FIdC welcomes the initiative with interest and agrees with the intentions of the Deutscher Jagdverband – the German Hunting Federation –, reiterating a position of intransigence and clear condemnation towards these vile episodes of poaching. At an international and European level, the synergies between the hunting world and that of serious and non-radical protectionism allow the pursuit of those higher goals of environmental protection that are an integral part of hunting activity. In fact, hunters confirm themselves every day as the first and fundamental protection of biodiversity and in this role they place an objective commitment that cannot be questioned (source: Federcaccia).
