La Italian Federation of Hunting reported the summary of the thirty-first edition of Great Veltro Corrente Trophy, one of the historical events regarding the Tuscan and Italian hounds. This year the test was divided into three distinct zootechnical tests, that of Barberino Val d'Elsa (province of Florence), that of Poggibonsi (Siena) and that of Siena, city where the final took place. There were also three categories in the race, namely "Singles", "Couples" and "Mutes". The best scores from the first two tests were crucial in deciding who was to participate in the final round. The lands are characterized by the many wild animals other than the hare: in this way the judges and competitors had the opportunity to test the correctness of the auxiliaries.
Thanks went to all the people and organizations involved, in particular the Territorial Areas of Hunting Florence and Siena, the restocking reserves, the Vico d'Elsa reserve, the Petrognano reserve, the provincial section of Federcaccia, the Cinofilo Group of Florence and that of Poggibonsi and the expert judges. What specific trophies were up for grabs? In addition to the Veltro Correne Trophy, won by Viola, Italian short-haired hound led by Henry Montiani (Singles), Elba and Rolex (also Italian short-haired hounds) of Vanessa Butini they triumphed in the “Couples” category; the “Mute” category was instead dominated by Lula, Ras, Lilli and Polo di Charles Generotti.
In conjunction with the Grand Trophy there was also the second edition of the Massimo Scheggi Memorial, dedicated to a hunter, dog lover and man who gave a lot in the hunting field: in this case the victory went to the pair of Italian short-haired hounds Flame and Zephyr di Anacleto and Simona Pelliccia (this is the best score obtained during the zootechnical verification of Barberino Val d'Elsa).
Scheggi passed away in 2005 and is remembered by all as a passionate pooper, capable of instilling great culture and knowledge in his writings and insights. No less important was the City of Siena Trophy, relating to the third and final test (the final one, as already pointed out) and conquered by Crissy and Faro di Fausto Brugnoni, the best pair of hounds ever as regards the sum of the two races of Poggibonsi and Barberino Val d'Elsa. The thirty-second edition has already been scheduled for the month of February 2017, so in exactly one year.
