Organizational success
The 35th World Helix Shooting Championship , organized by Italy at Tav Ghedi (BS), was an absolute success for our country. Italian shooters achieved 17 World Championship podium finishes, winning 3 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze individual medals, as well as 3 gold and 3 silver team medals. Antonio Passalacqua capped this incredible achievement with the World Champion title. The organizational success was also record-breaking, with 360 athletes registered, the maximum number allowed by the competition program, representing 12 nations.
The overall podium
Proceeding in order, the most prestigious achievement was undoubtedly that of Antonio Passalacqua of Messina, who, with a perfect 30 out of 30, became the Overall World Champion. His climb to the top of the podium was not without its challenges. Egyptian Franco Donato also achieved a perfect score, and the two faced off in a thrilling play-off for the World Championship title. In the end, the Italian prevailed with a score of 8 to 7, thrilling the home crowd. Antonio, along with Carmelo Passalacqua of Messina and Andrea Citracca of Fiumicino, returned to the podium for the well-deserved World Team Championship title with a score of 52, leaving behind the Americans, second with 51, and the Argentines, third with 48.
The Women's Teams
Moving on to the women's event, Italy earned the individual silver medal courtesy of Emanuela Barillà Rodì Milici (ME). The Sicilian finished the regulation throws with a score of 28/30, tied with Macie Page of the United States, and only lost in the tiebreaker, which the American won by 4 to 3. Barillà, along with Paola Tattini of Valsamoggia (BO) and Federica De Mattia of Capena (RM), returned to the podium for the team silver medal with a total of 21, behind the British, who were first with 22, and ahead of the Americans, who were third with 17.
More medals
The Juniors also won a double silver. Davide Rufo of Aprilia (LT) took second place on the individual podium. A play-off also determined the Italian's second place. After tying with Andrew Shahidi of the United States with 28/30, he lost to Shahidi, 5 points to 3 points. With Antonio Marrara of Reggio Calabria and Federico Salpietro of Ucria (ME), Rufo returned to second place for the silver in the Team event with 23. Ahead of them were the Americans with 25 and behind them the Egyptians with 19. The performance in the Senior category deserved a standing ovation with the gold of Roberto Proietti of Amelia (TR) with 28/30 +9, the silver of Fabio Parisi of Rome with 28/30 +7 and the bronze of Claudio Sangiorgi of Faenza (RA) with 28/30 +4 in the individual event and the gold of Valerio Benedetti of Fiumicino, Luca Boschi of Fucecchio (FI), Sebastiano Molinari of San Severino Marche (MC) in the Team event with 28.
The veterans
The Veterans' podium was also all Italian. The overall winners were Franco Tassinari of Faenza, gold with 27/30, Aldo Vignoli of Fiesole (FI), silver with 26/30 +11, and Giuseppe Catalano of Calderara di Reno (BO), bronze with 26/30 +10. Vignoli, this time accompanied by Erasmo Pacini of Crespina Lorenzana (PI) and Andrea Martignoni of Livorno, returned to the Team podium for gold and the World Championship title with a score of 27. The final three medals were won by the Italian Masters. The individual podium was taken by Antonino Scopelliti of Reggio Calabria (RC), silver medalist with 26/30 +5, and Ezio Candiani of Pordenone (PN), bronze medalist with 26/30 +3. Finally, on the team podium for the silver medal were Mauro Casalini from Monticelli D'Ongina (PC), Alberto Olivieri from Bologna, and Giancarlo Serra from Castelfranco Emiliano (MO) with a total of 19 (source: FITAV).
