The words of the president
Some cormorants there is still too little talk in Italy, but when it happens the alarms raised are louder than ever. This is the case of the APS Como FIPSAS (Italian Federation of Sport Fishing and Underwater Activities) and its president Luigi Guglielmetti who expressly asked politicians not to pretend nothing had happened. The reference of the number one of the association went to Lake Como and the birds that are devastating entire stretches of habitat to feed themselves.
Not very useful measures
The species is proving to be increasingly invasive, putting the population of specimens already preyed upon in industrial quantities at risk. According to Guglielmetti, the measures implemented by the Lombardy Region, specifically the culling of 346 cormorants, are not sufficient. Due to the rules of engagement, in fact, this activity never started, consequently the local FIPSAS would at least like action to be taken on the eggs.
So many dangers lurking
The president's warning via the press must be taken into serious consideration: “We can't go on like this. We are handing over our lake to the cormorants, with entire areas covered in guano, on the threshold of the tourist season and with the health dangers posed by the parasite which affects the ichthyophagous birds and which is then transmitted to the fish".
