The next regional elections
On the occasion of the electoral consultations for the elections of the Regional Parliament, Arci Caccia Lazio has decided to offer a contribution of ideas and proposals to the candidates for the presidency of the Region. As an association we have been a point of reference for ideas and indications in drafting the current regional law which regulates hunting. This is for a preparatory discussion for the vote on 12 and 13 February in which environmental, wildlife, agricultural and land management issues are of great importance.
ATC problems
The first worrying issue is that relating to the compression of democratic participation and the emptying of voluntary activities caused by the reduction in the number of members of the management bodies of the Lazio ATCs. The recent sentence of the Umbria Regional Administrative Court reaffirmed that the “ISPRA opinion on the hunting calendar is peacefully considered a mandatory but non-binding opinion, from which the Region can deviate provided it adequately reasons for the different choices made.
The necessary interventions
The need is confirmed for each Region to carry out censuses and monitor the faunal species present in the area, in order to base their choices on scientifically reliable data. For these purposes in the Lazio Region it is necessary:
– That the structures and bodies responsible for studying and researching fauna are put in a position to function
– That, annually, an adequate allocation is identified to support the costs of scientific research
This context includes the systematic collection of data relating to killings which, if inserted into an explicit cognitive framework, call the hunters themselves to new awareness (source: Arci Caccia).
