Postponement of the provision
"Our position on bird traps today in the Agriculture Committee was very clear: only the League (and Councilor Barbara Mazzali) voted against the postponement of the measure that would have authorized the capture of wild birds for use as live decoys until 2026. The postponement was proposed by the Brothers of Italy party and also supported by the National Future party and the left-wing opposition." This was stated by the regional councilors of the League Group (Massardi, Malanchini, Snider, Vitari, Sala), members of the Lombardy Region's 8th Committee on Agriculture, Mountains, and Forests, at the end of the session dedicated to Bill No. 173.
A deep-rooted rural tradition
"We're talking about a practice deeply rooted in Lombardy's history and rural traditions, practiced within a precise regulatory framework and with selective methods, through strictly controlled facilities and operators. Bird snares also represent an environmental and landscape heritage that has characterized our mountainous regions, especially, for centuries."
Hunting to defend
"The measure would have allowed the capture of song thrushes, blackbirds, redwings, and fieldfares for sale as live decoys to hunters from blinds, in compliance with established quotas and current regulations." "It is unfortunate that, faced with the possibility of taking a concrete step, the decision was postponed, effectively preventing captures for 2026 as well. The League remains unchanged and remains consistent: we will continue to defend bird-hunting nets and traditional hunting because they are an important part of Lombardy's rural culture."
