Common Agricultural Policy
La Liguria region confirms its commitment to supporting local livestock farms by approving the technical and procedural provisions for submitting confirmation applications for the "Specific commitments to coexist with large carnivores" intervention, as part of the 2023-2027 Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan.
Annual financial support
"This is a much-needed measure to support Ligurian farmers operating in complex environments, where the presence of large predators is now a structural reality," says Agriculture Councilor Alessandro Piana. "With this intervention, we want to ensure a balance between protecting biodiversity and safeguarding agricultural activities, while also combating the abandonment of pastures and inland areas." The five-year program provides annual financial support per hectare of grazed land, subject to the adoption of wildlife prevention measures, such as predator-prey fences, continuous livestock guarding, and, on a voluntary basis, the use of livestock guarding dogs.
Where the call applies
"Protecting the work of farmers," Piana emphasizes, "also means preserving the territory, environmental safety, and the quality of our products. With this call for proposals, we are strengthening existing tools, improving the effectiveness of prevention measures and encouraging sustainable management of livestock farming." The call for proposals applies throughout the region and can also be combined with other agro-climatic-environmental interventions, encouraging an integrated and innovative approach to farm management (source: Liguria Region).
