Following the increasing presence of wild boars in urban areas, also Ispra has issued some rules to follow, also aimed at remembering that wild boar is not a pet and that certain behaviors, how to feed them, as well as prohibited by law, they are also risky. Ispra reminds us that providing food is an absolutely inadvisable practice, because it favors the habit of these animals to humans with potential risks for people, without forgetting that this behavior also implies risks for the animals themselves.
It should be remembered that the presence of wild boars in urban areas is closely linked to the availability of food waste and organic waste for this wild animal. The wild boar is, by its nature, a wild animal and can react to the interaction by biting or pushing violently. Furthermore, this attendance involves risks for pets - dogs and cats - which can be attacked by wild boars with even serious consequences. By facilitating the presence of wild boars near roads and homes, the risk of road accidents that can be caused by crossing them should not be underestimated.
Please note that wild boar foraging is expressly prohibited by the Law 221 / 2015 which provides for, for those who violate this prohibition, arrest from 2 to 6 months or a fine from € 500 to 2.000. For the city of Rome there is a specific ordinance of 2016 which orders "not to distribute food to pigeons, seagulls and other animals belonging to wildlife on public areas ”punishable with a sanction from € 50 to 500.
