The MASAF Bill
The Lombardy Region Councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, Alessandro Beduschi, enters the debate on the announced reform of Law 157/92 on hunting and management of wild fauna, which will be the subject of a Bill announced in recent days by the Government. The Bill proposed by MASAF intends to guarantee the same level of protection of wild fauna and, at the same time, the protection of human activities, put at risk by the uncontrolled spread of wild fauna: in short, the objective is to restore a correct relationship of coexistence between man and wild animals.
Hunting Law Reform
“We need the courage to tackle things that don’t work,” says Lombardy councilor Alessandro Beduschi, “and Law 157, over thirty years after its approval, obviously needs to be updated.” “A job,” he emphasizes, “that needs to be done taking into account the most recent scientific studies, but also the concrete reality of the territories, where wild fauna is becoming a real environmental, agricultural and health emergency.”
The connection with the climate
The councilor also highlighted how the uncontrolled proliferation of some species is also linked to climate change and the abandonment of rural areas. In Lombardy, direct and indirect damage to agriculture and livestock amounts to several tens of millions of euros per year, not to mention the increase in road accidents with serious consequences for people and property. Added to all this is the recent ruling by the TAR that blocked hunting in 475 Lombardy passes, limiting actions to contain wild fauna and seriously jeopardizing the fight against the spread of African swine fever.
Applause to Minister Lollobrigida
“A round of applause goes to Minister Lollobrigida – continues Beduschi – for having chosen to tackle a complex issue with determination, exposing herself to criticisms that are too often the result of an ideological approach that is distant from reality”. “The task of an administrator – concludes the assessor – is not to indulge easy consensus, but to take responsibility for decisions that are also uncomfortable, when they serve to protect the general interest. And in this case the Government is doing so with courage”. (Source Moreno Gussoni – Regione Lombardia Notizie)
