Extensive damage to agriculture
“The Regional Council of Lombardy has just approved the resolution authorising, for the 2025/26 hunting season, the hunting of finches and starlings in derogation"This is a historic achievement for the Lombardy hunting community, which for 14 years has been waiting for the restoration of a legitimate right deeply rooted in our rural tradition. It also recognizes the need for a levy that will prevent significant damage to agriculture," explains Lombardy Regional Councilor Floriano Massardi of the Lega Nord, President of the Agriculture, Mountains, and Forestry Commission.

“However,” Massardi continues, “I cannot hide my disappointment at the department's decision to limit the exemption to hunting from fixed hides only: a choice I believe is unjustified and risks fueling further tensions among hunters, rather than strengthening their unity.
The details of the resolution

1) live decoys of the two species may also be used provided they come exclusively from breeding;
2) Hunters (only from fixed hides) who wish to apply for the exemption must submit an application using the specific online forms provided by the Lombardy Region (the forms will be prepared at a later date);
3) withdrawals will be permitted between October 1st and November 30th 2025;
4) withdrawal will be permitted for no more than three days per week;
5) the maximum daily and seasonal limit for the taking of each of the two species for each authorised hunter will be determined later" concludes Massardi.
