Mr Barbara Mazzali, regional councilor of Lombardy (Brothers of Italy), announced on Facebook the presentation of his draft law relating to containment of nutria: “The nutria in Lombardia they are causing incalculable damage to farms and to the embankments of the water bodies in which they build their dens, risking to contaminate the production cycles of our agri-food products. This rodent also represents a danger to man because the tunnels it digs cause subsidence of the embankments and land and consequently also of the neighboring roads. This premise is a must to make people understand the importance of my PDL: it is true that there is already a nutrie plan, but the situation is so emergency that we need to do more.
Here is my proposal in brief:
- All 'Art 2 it introduces the possibility of burying in the case of small daily quantities, and the possibility, for the cage manager or the implementer, to keep the captured head. It also introduces the reference that allows, exceptionally for animals killed with firearms in the context of the control plans, that they can be left on site, when the conditions of the habitat do not make recovery possible.
- All 'Art 3 the range of subjects authorized to take is widened.
- All 'Art 4 the regional territorial offices are expected to send a report on the results of the containment operations to the regional council and to Ispra by 31 May of each year.
The changes that my PDL brings have as intent the streamlining of procedures and the elimination of bureaucracy. This is what is needed, because we have reached a point where the problem must be solved quickly.
