Occasional stopover?
We report below the note of the Montevecchia and Curone Valley Regional Park, a green area located in the Merate area (Monza-Brianza): "It is reported that in recent days some predation of sheep and goats by a probable wolf has occurred within the Park. The incidents are probably attributable to the occasional passage of a single dispersing individual, a natural phase in the wolf's biological cycle that occurs mainly between late autumn and the winter months."
Advice for breeders
"Farmers have already been advised to secure their livestock, especially at night. We recall that wolves, an indicator of the Park's biodiversity, are primarily nocturnal and generally avoid approaching humans and residential areas."
Correct behaviors
We take this opportunity to remind citizens of the importance of adopting correct behavior in the event of sightings of wolves and, more generally, wild fauna:
• do not attempt to approach or follow the animal; if you spot it from a car, pull over and wait for the animal to move away or cross the road;
• prevent garbage bags from being easily accessible to wildlife;
• do not feed domestic or wild animals outside;
• keep dogs on a leash throughout the Park, as per current legislation;
• keep pets in well-closed areas or inside homes during the night hours”.
