In Umbria, a significant amendment to the Consolidated Law on Agriculture was recently approved by majority, with particular attention to the collection, marketing and valorisation of spontaneous, fresh and preserved epigean mushrooms. The initiative, promoted by the Regional Council, aims to improve citizens' knowledge on the recognition of the different species of mushrooms, their edibility and the reproduction mechanisms of the fungal flora.
Optional courses for responsible collection
One of the main innovations introduced is the establishment of optional courses, organized by the regional forestry agency, the mycological inspectorates of the local health authorities and the national and regional mycological associations. These courses, based on programs defined by the Regional Council, will allow Umbrian citizens to deepen their knowledge of mushrooms and natural ecosystems, as well as to acquire the correct behavioral rules during harvesting.
Certification for passionate citizens
By participating in these courses and obtaining the certificate of participation, Umbrian citizens will also be able to benefit from a particular benefit: the possibility of picking mushrooms in extra-regional territories, where otherwise it would not be allowed. This initiative will not only encourage the dissemination of knowledge useful for protecting the environment, but will also allow mushroom enthusiasts to explore new territories.
Strengthen prevention
The changes and additions to the current regulatory text also include specifications for the collection of specimens belonging to the Amanita genus, in order to strengthen prevention measures and guarantee responsible and safe collection.
In summary, the approval of this bill represents a significant step towards a more conscious management of natural resources, while promoting the culture of sustainable and responsible harvesting of epigean mushrooms in Umbria.
