Il Dutch government has decided to impose limits on the hunters they intend to import their hunting trophies in the Netherlands. This is a novelty of the last few hours and which is effectively summarized in a list compiled for the occasion and which explains what can and what cannot be brought to the nation. The list includes 200 species, which will obviously no longer be allowed, such as for example rhinos, elephants, hippos, lions, polar bears and leopards, animals in great demand when it comes to hunting trophies.
In addition, Martin van Dam, Dutch Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, would like to impose a broader and more European ban on this area, given that he has judged “Disgusting” the hunting of protected animals for the subsequent sale of trophies. However, the requests reached the Netherlands were not very numerous.
In fact, between 2012 and 2015 there were 27 applications relating to the import of hunting trophies into the country, less than seven a year in the four-year period considered: the government has rejected and rejected 17, therefore more than half. Trophies of lions, bears, elephants, panthers, monkeys, wolves, deer and lynxes.
