The Community of the met yesterday morning, November 5th. Tuscan Archipelago National ParkThe agenda included the presentation of the new Special Commissioner of the Park, Matteo Arcenni, and the expression of opinions on the Authority's Budget Forecast for 2026. The meeting, convened with the participation of the Mayors, the Presidents of the Provinces of Grosseto and Livorno, and the Tuscany Region, was attended by 9 of the 13 members, with the Tuscany Region and the Municipalities of Rio, Capraia Isola, and Livorno absent.
A solid balance sheet
Arcenni expressed appreciation for the work accomplished by the Authority thus far and for the significant potential of the area, which is charming even in winter and rich in beauty, while highlighting some critical issues. He emphasized that he has found a solid budget and an efficient administrative structure, an important basis for planning new initiatives to benefit the community and the environment.
Priority actions
The Commissioner has indicated among his priorities:
• urgently address the management of ungulates on the Island of Elba, including the goat problem, with a dedicated and shared operational plan;
• promote new entrepreneurial initiatives and sustainable activities to enhance the territory;
• initiate the process of identifying marine protection areas to be included within the perimeter of the National Park, with reference to Elba and Giglio, on the basis of a participatory, transparent, unimposed process shared with local administrations and various stakeholders;
• develop a sustainable and sensorial tourism plan, aimed at deseasonalization and improving services for residents and visitors, countering the abandonment of the islands out of season.
