The same old story
If there's one thing animal rights activists and anti-hunters deserve to be recognized for, it's their perseverance. The 2025-2026 hunting season is also seeing the same old story of appeals to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) against regional calendars, and the first to suffer—unwillingly—is the Veneto region . Yesterday, the Venice Regional Administrative Court suspended some sections of the bill, upholding the appeal filed by five associations.
The protagonists of the appeal
These are the LAC (League for the Abolition of Hunting), the LNDC (National League for the Defense of the Dog), the LIPU (Italian League for the Protection of Birds), and the OIPA (International Organization for Animal Protection). The suspension affects mountain passes affected by the transit of migratory species, not to mention the reduction by half of the daily and seasonal bag for the skylark (5 daily and 25 seasonal birds). Additionally, the judges suspended the bag for the common pochard (2 daily and 10 seasonal birds).
The reactions
On November 27th, when the appeal is heard, the Regional Administrative Court will also have to address the closing dates for redwings, gadwalls, mallards, and moorhens, as well as the use of lead ammunition. Sergio Berlato, the Honorable, head of the ACR (Italian Retriever Association), is furious and released a video from CONFAVI: " We told and wrote this to the Regional Council, but they refused to listen. The consequences of this foolishness fall on the heads of all hunters in the Veneto region who have already paid for their hunting licenses in full and now see their rights being defrauded ."
