The protagonists of the meeting
An informal meeting took place on the morning of Sunday, August 3rd, between the President of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, the President of the Park Community and Mayor of Marciana, Simone Barbi, and the Mayor of Portoferraio, Tiziano Nocentini. Giani, who was on Elba privately, met with the two local representatives to review the unfinished business before the end of his term.
Water regulation
Mayor Nocentini, as he had already announced following the last storm in Portoferraio on July 13th, has delivered to the President of the Region the documents regarding the necessary water management intervention in the Carburo and Sghingetta areas, which had already been anticipated to the regional offices on Thursday, July 31st.
Possible DOP?
The National Park's issues were also addressed, with particular emphasis on those affecting ungulates. The Mayor of Portoferraio expressed his willingness to provide a municipal building suitable for integrating the collection centers needed for the slaughter of wild boars. President Giani finally expressed his appreciation for the proposal to create an Elban supply chain for the exploitation of wild boar meat, leading to the recognition of an Elban DOP (Protected Designation of Origin). This topic will be explored further in the coming days.
