Containment activities
Only 32 wild boars were killed in 2025 in the Trebbia, Stirone, and Piacenziano parks. This figure prompted regional councilor Giancarlo Tagliaferri (Brothers of Italy) and Rivergaro municipal councilor Giampaolo Maloberti (Brothers of Italy) to submit a question to the Emilia-Romagna Region and a request for access to documents regarding the management of wild boar containment activities in the protected areas of the region. province of Piacenza"Reducing the wild boar population is one of the key measures to combat the spread of African Swine Fever," explains Tagliaferri, "but in the park areas of the Piacenza area, the numbers are extremely low."
Park areas
For this reason, the regional councilor has asked the Regional Council to clarify the operating procedures adopted in the parks and whether the species management interventions have been truly effective. In the statement, Tagliaferri and Maloberti also recall the work that began in the Piacenza area in 2023. "That year," they explain, "the Piacenza Provincial Police led a control room, activated at the instigation of agricultural unions and with the collaboration of hunting associations and the Territorial Hunting Areas (ATC)." The goal was to make interventions to contain the species more effective, allowing similar rules to be applied in park areas for control plans, thus strengthening the effectiveness of wild boar depopulation efforts.
Protection of the economic sector
"This was an important project," they emphasize, "built thanks to the collaboration between institutions, the agricultural world, and the hunting community. A wealth of experience and territorial coordination that today risks being lost." Protecting a strategic economic sector. The issue, the two Fratelli d'Italia representatives explain, also concerns the protection of a strategic economic sector. "The province of Piacenza is one of the areas most exposed to the risk of ASF due to the presence of numerous pig farms," says Maloberti, "and the Emilia-Romagna pork supply chain represents one of the most important sectors of the regional agri-food sector." According to industry estimates, the regional pork supply chain is worth approximately €5 billion. "The fight against African Swine Fever," they conclude, "requires clear, coordinated, and truly effective actions. Protecting the pork supply chain and Piacenza's agricultural economy also requires careful and timely management of wild fauna."
