A special and intense year
UNA Foundation – Man, Nature, Environment – announces a new update on the results achieved by theOperation Paladins of the Territory, its most representative project that, for three years now, has seen significant mobilization throughout the Italian territory. The Operation, which began in January 2024, saw the participation, from January to September, of more than 4500 volunteers, engaged in the various initiatives organized by over 130 territorial sections of the Italian Hunting Federation and other hunting associations that responded positively to UNA's invitation to participate. Over the course of the year, hunters from all over Italy have mobilized by organizing volunteer initiatives of various kinds, from the maintenance of green areas to the collection of waste dispersed in the natural environment, up to dissemination activities in collaboration with schools and local authorities and initiatives to support scientific projects, such as the censuses that involved volunteers in the Alpine area and in central Italy, or support for social events such as initiatives dedicated to disabled children. The common thread running through all the actions undertaken by the Paladins of the Territory was, once again, the protection of the environment and biodiversity and the commitment of the hunting world to safeguard nature and its balance.
The good of the territory
“The success that Operazione Paladini del Territorio is having again this year, for the third time in a row and with increasingly positive results, is the confirmation of the will of hunters to be a point of reference for the local communities in which they are inserted” comments Maurizio Zipponi, President of Fondazione UNA. “Working for the good of the territory and the environment is praiseworthy, but it is not enough, if this will to act is not included in a more complete reflection, which also includes the well-being of the communities that live in this territory and this environment. In this sense, the social role of the modern hunter is realized, in which, as a Foundation, we believe.” The new format of the Operation Paladini del Territorio inaugurated this year, in fact, makes the project a real platform suitable for hosting all volunteer initiatives: not only does it provide for the extension of the useful period to embrace the entire year, eliminating for the first time any time limit, but it pursues the objective of amplifying the impact of the volunteer activity of the hunting community, systematizing all the organized initiatives: not limiting itself, therefore, to the maintenance activities of the green areas, but considering all the actions with a positive impact carried out by hunters for their community and their territory.
Joining the project
Through the Operazione Paladini del Territorio project, Fondazione UNA further substantiates its commitment to protecting the natural environment, confirmed over the years by joining various partnerships such as IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and Mountain Partnership – FAO, the official United Nations partnership dedicated to improving the lives of mountain populations and protecting mountain environments around the world. Also for this third edition, the Foundation can count on the valuable support of its member hunting associations, including Federcaccia, which have actively involved their clubs throughout the country in the initiatives. To join the project with their own initiative, associations can still fill out the form available on the page dedicated to Operazione Paladini del Territorio on the Fondazione UNA website.
