Enthusiasm at the beginning of the year
The first weekend of the year opened with the start of the Winter Regional ChampionshipsThese competitions officially opened the curtain and set the bar for the new 2026 competitive season. The enthusiasm and eagerness of Italian shooters to return to the arena was especially evident in the number of participants in the seasonal regional circuits. Three regions in Northern Italy—Lombardy, Piedmont, and Valle d'Aosta—started the competition, bringing a total of 715 competitive shooters to eight different venues from Saturday, January 3rd to Monday, January 5th. This is an encouraging sign, considering the geographical area involved.
Lombardy leads the way
The region with the highest attendance was Lombardy, which, with 656 specialists registered for six different competitions, took first place in the overall weekly participation ranking. Piedmont followed, with the competition held at the Carpignano Sesia (NO) competition attracting 37 shooters. In the Aosta Valley, which holds its competitions in Piedmont, 22 competitive shooters competed in the competition held at the Carisio (VC) competition alone, giving the region third place in the rankings.
We're getting to the heart of the matter
The Regional Winter Championships will continue to provide excitement this coming weekend. The season will kick off with a new series of events, from Friday, January 9th to Sunday, January 11th, involving competitors and enthusiasts in 15 competitions spread across eight different Italian regions. The events will include Olympic Trench, Compak Sporting, Universal Trench, and the Hunting Course, which will attract a significant portion of the national shooting community in Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Lombardy, Marche, Piedmont, Tuscany, and Umbria (source: FITAV).
