A virus that advances
In the last few days the executives of Arci Caccia Tuscany They participated in a training event on African Swine Fever. Thanks to the availability of the Regional technicians, we were updated on the evolution of the epidemic and the regulatory updates to hunting introduced by Commissioner Filippini's Ordinance No. 7. Unfortunately, the disease has moved and the restricted zones have expanded, encompassing the entire province of Massa Carrara, much of the province of Lucca, and a municipality in the province of Pistoia.
The planned checks
In the area closest to the disease front, known as Zone II, where infected wild boars are located, and in the adjacent area, Zone I, wild boar hunting is closed and culling is carried out under controlled conditions according to the various regulations. On the edge of Zone II lies the Viral Expansion Containment Zone, a strip of land with more stringent regulations. Outside the restricted zones, a depopulation zone has been identified, encompassing the non-restricted areas of the province of Lucca, some municipalities in the province of Pisa, and much of the province of Pistoia. Hunting continues here, with increased activity and all culled animals monitored for Trichinella and ASF.
License for border dogs
We endorse a recommendation issued by the Region and pass it on to all wild boar hunters. To participate in hunting operations in Zones I and II, hunters must be licensed pursuant to Article 37 and have completed an online biosecurity course. Furthermore, handlers must be licensed to handle hounds, as must the dogs themselves.
Help for hunters
We thank the Regional staff: Dr. Ferretti, Dr. Lenuzza, Dr. Capecci, and Dr. Muzzi for their helpfulness and the clarity of the information provided. Arci Caccia remains available to collaborate with the Regional government and other institutions to try to contain the spread of this disease and help hunters best cope with the inconveniences caused by this new emergency.
