The double objective
The objective is twofold: on the one hand, to promote the natural reproduction of animals, and on the other, to allow the repopulation of areas where wildlife is scarce, helping to restore environmental balance. The Third Commission, chaired by Claudio Sacchetto, expressed a majority in favor of the proposed resolution defining new criteria for the establishment and management of Repopulation and Capture Zones (RCZs) in Piedmont . In any case, to ensure continuity, existing authorizations will remain valid until their natural expiration. These are areas where wild fauna can live and reproduce naturally, and then be relocated to areas where animal populations have declined. As Councilor Paolo Bongioanni explained, "the measure stems from the need to clarify and update rules that, over time, had become incomplete or inconsistent."
Tools already foreseen
The 2018 regional law already provided for these tools, but precise operational guidelines were lacking. This difficulty was also highlighted by local representatives, such as the Territorial Hunting Areas (ATC) and the Alpine Districts (CA), who called for clearer and more shared rules. For this reason, as explained in the Commission, the Region worked together with the Provinces and the Metropolitan City of Turin, gathering useful suggestions to build a more coherent system across the entire Piedmont region.
The different political visions
Sarah Disabato (M5S) requested a postponement of the measure to allow for further technical analysis, but the proposal was rejected. The councilor reiterated the urgency of proceeding with approval. Monica Canalis (PD), Roberto Ravello (FdI), and Nadia Conticelli (PD) also spoke in the debate, with the latter raising the issue of the timing for submitting the new Wildlife and Hunting Plan (source: Piedmont Regional Council).
