The purpose of the appointment
“Legal instruments for the management of protected areas” is the title of the study day organised by theAcademy of Georgofili of Florence In close collaboration with Federparchi, the meeting took place in Florence on November 11th. The purpose of the event, which also had an educational dimension, was to analyze the historical and legislative context within which nature conservation developed in Italy, as well as to evaluate the application of European and national Forest and Biodiversity Strategies, including the Consolidated Law on Forests and its implementing decrees, to Protected Areas.
Relations
Introductory remarks were given by Giuseppe Scarascia Mugnozza, of the Multidisciplinary Advisory Committee of the Accademia dei Georgofili, and Luigi Spadone, Vice President of Federparchi. The first presentation was delivered by Senator Valdo Spini, former Minister of the Environment. These were followed by remarks by Nicoletta Ferrucci, Accademia dei Georgofili; Mario Mauro, University of Florence; Ciro Amato, Federparchi Legal Office; Alessandra Stefani, Accademia Georgofili; and Andrea Gennai, Federparchi Directors' Advisor. Diego Martino, representing the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, and Francesco Tomas, also participated in the discussion.
The conclusions
The closing remarks were delivered by Federparchi President Luca Santini. There was an in-depth discussion on how to reconcile the protection of natural values, which legitimize the recognition of an area as a park, with other socioeconomic activities carried out within the park and with tourism, recreation, and education objectives, all in the interests of sustainable development for the local communities.
