Fundamental social component
Hunters as a guardian of the territory, but also an expression of the identity and values of the Trentino community. This is the message brought to Avio by the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, on the occasion of the opening of the trophy management exhibition organized by the Avio Municipal Hunters' Reserve, which brought together the southern hunting districts—Adige Destra, Adige Sinistra, Sarca, and Trento. "Hunters are part of Trentino's identity and culture and preserve values that are intrinsic to our autonomy," Fugatti emphasized in his address. "Beyond their role in managing wildlife and biodiversity, they represent a social and cultural component that helps define our territory."
The formation
During his speech, preceded by a performance by the Monte Vignol Choir of Avio, the president emphasized the provincial administration's commitment to supporting the sector and the many issues under discussion with the Trentini Hunters Association, starting with training: "The Association's recognition as a training body for expert guide courses led to the certification of 164 new hunters last March, including 25 women, an important sign of renewal," he explained. "We are also working to recognize the value of the volunteer work you provide to the community every day and to support the process toward the new headquarters, which will be an operational space, a place of gathering and openness, capable of better communicating your commitment and the values you embody to the community," added Fugatti, also emphasizing the movement's vitality, demonstrated by the numerous events that have enlivened the province in recent weeks.
Who was present at the event
The president then addressed the national context, noting that the hunting world is sometimes overlooked, while in Trentino its work is known and recognized for its environmental and social benefits. Present at the opening of the event were, along with the president, the mayor of Avio, Ivano Fracchetti; the president of the Provincial Council, Claudio Soini; the Honorable Vanessa Cattoi; Matteo Rensi, president of the Trentino Hunters' Association; the presidents of the district councils of Adige Destra, Adige Sinistra, Sarca, and Trento; and the rectors of the reserves.
The work of hunters
The event, held in the municipal tent today and tomorrow [Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd], represents a key moment for the hunting world. The management review—as explained by the president of the Trentino hunters, Matteo Rensi—is a concrete reflection of the work carried out by hunters throughout the year: the trophies on display are the result of an activity regulated by harvest plans based on conservation criteria and careful management of the species. This approach is also confirmed by the data emerging from the Association's latest meeting, which highlights the substantial stability of ungulate populations in the province. Alongside the exhibition, the program also included institutional events, outreach initiatives, and activities aimed at families and young people, including the award ceremony for the best roe deer, chamois, and red deer trophies.
