To the proposal of the Minister Catania to postpone the start of the hunting season, the commissioner Stefano of the Puglia Region replies that it will be discussed in the regional table.
The Councilor for Agriculture of the Puglia Region, Dario Stefano, announces that the Regional Wildlife Hunting Table will soon be convened to discuss the proposal of the Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, Mario Catania, on the possible postponement of the start of the Hunting Season 2012-2013 due to the heat and drought that have hit the woods and countryside in recent months.
According to the Apulian Hunting Calendar, hunting will begin with three pre-opening days at the beginning of September while the official opening is scheduled for the third week of September.
Regarding the proposal of the minister Catania, the commissioner Stefano announced the convocation "of the Regional Wildlife Hunting Technical Committee, an advisory body, where the whole system is present to express itself on this eventuality and to understand what the common feeling is".
Stefano in fact explained, “I prefer to listen to all stakeholders on a calendar like that of Puglia which is already quite anchored to sustainability criteria and I do it willingly. If there are extraordinary factors that will indicate extraordinary solutions, we will evaluate them together ".
Concluding the commissioner Stefano then stated, “For me the issue of drought is evident and affects the whole national territory. If this also becomes an element on which to adapt the hunting calendar, I want to evaluate it with the Technical Committee and rely on a more extensive evaluation ".
