Second year
2026 marked the second year of ringing activities, part of the Quail Project , promoted by Federcaccia and UCIM. This activity has produced highly interesting results and is part of the broader research undertaken by Federcaccia on this species. This study is being conducted at four capture and ringing stations located in Veneto, Marche, and Calabria, and aims to quantitatively and qualitatively monitor the quail's prenuptial migration in Italy.
Capture effort
A total of 2.544 quail were ringed over the two years, with an increase in 2026 (1.402 birds) compared to 2025 (1.142 birds), partly due to an increase in capture effort. It was confirmed that the majority of the catches were males born in the year prior to the capture, and there was an excellent transit of quail between late April and early May.
Understanding Migration
The data collected represents important scientific results for understanding the migration and population dynamics of this species. This achievement was made possible thanks to the passion, dedication, and expertise of the ringers and all the collaborators involved. The research will continue in the coming years to further expand knowledge and provide an increasingly solid foundation for the management and conservation of quail.
