Abatement plan
Yesterday, Monday, September 14, 2026, the Regional Administrative Court of Bolzano effectively blocked the culling of the third wolf in the province , as required by a specific decree. Specifically, the Regional Administrative Court upheld the appeal of the National League for the Defense of the Dog, going against the provisions of the 2026 culling plan. In practice, the decree in question was effective for just three days.
A very large area
As decided by the Province of Bolzano, the intervention area included the municipalities of Ultimo and Castelbello-Ciardes, for a total area of over 260 square kilometers. This decision was necessary due to the ongoing summer predation, specifically between June 15th and September 8th, which resulted in 22 sheep and 4 goats being killed or never recovered.
Sufficient withdrawals
Two animals have already been killed for the same reason, and the TRGA judges deemed these kills sufficient prior to a collegial decision. The ruling upholding the LNDC's appeal states, among other things, that the mountain grazing season is practically over, thus reducing the risk of further predation in this area.
