Wildlife management
The "Guidelines for the Drafting of Provincial and Metropolitan City Plans" for the Management and Containment of Wild Fauna have been approved, implementing Article 19-ter of Law No. 157/1992 and in accordance with the National Extraordinary Plan adopted by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security. The Guidelines represent an indispensable operational tool for Sardinia, aimed at ensuring a consistent and scientifically based approach to wildlife management, particularly for species that, due to their distribution or concentration, can cause serious problems. significant impacts on agriculture, on road safety and on the balance of ecosystems.
Presence of animals and people
"With this measure," states Rosanna Laconi, Councilor for Environmental Protection, "the Region is taking an important step toward a more modern, responsible, and shared management of wild fauna. Ensuring a balance between animal presence, human safety, and ecosystem protection means consciously governing a natural heritage that belongs to everyone." The document defines criteria, objectives, and intervention methods for Provinces and Metropolitan Cities, providing control and containment plans based on technical assessments, risk analysis, zoning of intervention areas, and the involvement of qualified professionals. The guidelines are also fully consistent with the European Habitats and Birds Directives and the EU Regulation on Invasive Alien Species, ensuring that all management actions are compatible with the protection of biodiversity and the objectives of the Natura 2000 Network.
A clear framework
The Guidelines were shared with the Provinces, the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, and local authorities, who actively participated in developing the text, which was then unanimously approved by the Regional Wildlife Committee. "We have developed a clear framework," adds Councilor Laconi, "that brings order and coherence to a complex issue. The coexistence of humans and wildlife cannot be left to improvisation: it requires knowledge, planning, and a sense of responsibility toward people, farmers, and the environment." With this move, the Region confirms its coordinating role in wildlife and hunting planning, promoting a vision that combines science, environmental protection, and citizen safety, while respecting Sardinia's biodiversity and unique territorial characteristics (source: Sardinia Region).
