Fish-eating birds
The Sardinian Regional Department of Agriculture has published a public notice regarding Action 7 "Support for aquaculture businesses" - Operation 31, within Priority 2 - Specific Objective 2.1 of the PN FEAMPA Italia 2021/2027, in implementation of Regulations (EU) no. 2021/1060 and no. 2021/1139. The intervention provides for the granting of compensation to aquaculture businesses for damage caused by wild fauna, in particular from fish-eating birds (cormorants).
Compensatory measures
The initiative aims to support the economic stability of businesses through compensatory measures for unforeseen environmental, climate, or health events, as well as through insurance instruments for aquaculture stocks. The project contributes to strategic lines 3, 4, and 5 of Macro Objective 3 of the National Strategic Plan for Aquaculture.
The period to be considered
Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises operating in extensive aquaculture in Sardinia's fisheries that have suffered damage caused by cormorants between October 2024 and March 2025 and October 2025 and March 2026 are eligible for funding. The total funding is €3,5 million. Applications for funding and payment must be submitted exclusively online through the regional information system SIPES, starting from 10:00 a.m. on April 27, 2026, and ending at 10:00 a.m. on May 29, 2026 (source: Sardinia Region).
