These magnificent animals have not been seen in the area since the early twentieth century. European project, the province of Medio Campidano is the leader. In the Supramonte di Urzulei today 15 examples of Sardinian deer are released. In this area of the Ogliastra Supramonte this species was missing since the early 900s. The animals will be released as part of the Life Natura Italia project “One deer two Island” which provides for the reintroduction of the species in its historical ranges of Ogliastra and Corsica.
It is a project, funded by the European Commission, which sees the province of Medio Campidano as the leader. Among the partners, there are the Sardinia Forestry Authority whose technicians will carry out the release operations tomorrow, Ispra (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), the Province of Ogliastra and, for Corsica, the Parc Naturel Règional de Corse. Satellite radio collars will be applied to all animals to facilitate the observation of movements in the release territory.
