Hunting accident: Sassari, a thirty-year-old farmer was accidentally hit by a shotgun shot by a hunter while he was on his land.
This is the umpteenth hunting accident in the land of Sardinia that occurred in recent days shortly after 14,30 pm, in the hamlet of La Corte, in the district of the Municipality of Sassari, in the locality of "Campu Calvagiu", a very frequented by hunters. The thirty-year-old farmer from Nurra was lucky who was accidentally wounded in the left calf by a bullet shot by mistake by a hunter who had mistaken him for game in a bush.
According to a first reconstruction by the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Nucleus of the Porto Torres company based also on some testimonies, the farmer was carrying out cleaning work on the land of his farm near a large bush when the hunter, a few tens of meters away, he seems to have noticed a movement in the bush. At this point the hunter, believing it was a probable prey, fired his own rifle with the intent of hitting the hypothetical prey but the desperate screams of the wounded farmer dispelled all doubts.
The man was immediately rescued on site and subsequently accompanied to a nearby bar where personnel from a 118 medical ambulance arrived shortly after: initially it was thought that the man had been hit in the femoral artery, thus causing fear of the worst. but fortunately the bullet hit the left calf, however, causing a major laceration of the relative muscle band without serious consequences.
After the first medical attention of the ambulance doctor, the farmer was transported to the Emergency Department of the Hospital of Sassari and admitted to the Emergency Surgery Department; the farmer's conditions are not serious.
The hunter, identified by the Carabinieri who accompanied him to the barracks for the investigation of the case, is a 50-year-old man from Porto Torres; the rifle used by the hunter was confiscated and in the same way the ammunition was also confiscated. From the first investigations it emerged that the ammunition used by the hunter was of the ball type, generally used for hunting wild boar, on a day in which, however, the Hunting Calendar did not provide for this type of hunting.
The hunter to the carabinieri reiterated that he had not noticed the presence of the farmer on the other side of the bush, but now he risks a complaint for attempted murder. We take this opportunity to renew to all hunters our invitation to the utmost prudence and strict compliance with the rules during the hunting days in order to avoid unpleasant incidents that can only harm our beloved Passion for Hunting.
