It starts with a skeletonized butt plate obtained from a technopolymer called ryton, a very high quality material that has impressive mechanical characteristics. The cheek rest is adjustable in height by acting on a lobe handwheel. The butt plate can be collapsed to facilitate the transport of the weapon by reducing its overall dimensions: this operation is possible thanks to a release button placed on the side of the butt plate which folds and rests on the chassis. The junction with the central part of the chassis is made through a tube, in pure AR-15 style, and is therefore compatible with all the recoil pads that are on the market and dedicated to this historic rifle. The central body of the stock is machined from solid from a block of Ergal 55, the surface machining and the black finish make the weapon very pleasant and captivating. The charger is compatible with the AICS standard. The chassis ends with a round and perforated forend on which you can mount rails for all the tactical accessories you might need.
The Sabatti ST-18 features the new three-tenon action designed in collaboration with BCM. Motion action resistant even to high loads thanks to the heat treatments and surface finishes to which it is subjected. The fixing of the weapon to the chassis is conceptually innovative and leaves the floating action, an innovation introduced with the TLD at the beginning of 2018. The feeding of the shots from the magazine was presented without any kind of hitch or aiming, the closure of the shutter it is very fluid and precise both in normal conditions and in fast shooting conditions. The magazine release is very soft and the release buttons are generously sized and allow the magazine to be changed even when wearing gloves of a certain thickness. The shot is clear and light but at the same time in complete safety, characteristic and now well known on all previous models of the Bresciano manufacturer.
Accuracy with commercial ammunition stood at the classic 0,5 MOA of the 308 Winchester MRR coupled with the 175gn Fiocchi ammunition. Excellent result also during the rapid shooting test, in which the point of impact on the 5 targets was almost the same on all five targets, irrefutable proof that the weapon is precise, the brake works very well and does not make you lose sight the target, allows you to quickly return to hit the next target. In conclusion, the new ST-18 looks promising. It will be a tactical weapon, excellent for dynamic long-distance shooting competitions but which can also have its say at the shooting range and why not… even on the hunting ground. The calibers with which it will be presented will make it really interesting but the most incredible thing is the excellent price with which it will be sold. A real bargain with features well above guns in the same price range.
