Rival packs
A “simple” smell to try to solve the predations by wolvesThis, in a nutshell, is the project that will be tested on the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni in Vicenza, where special pheromones will simulate the presence of a rival pack. As you might expect, the goal is to deceive wolves, who will then avoid approaching the herds and flocks. To be even more precise, the project will begin with five mountain pastures between the municipalities of Bassano and Enego.
Reduction of predation
The proposal to use these chemicals came from a consulting firm, Agridinamica di Nove. After careful study, the company developed "Velaris L," a product that has already worked flawlessly in Switzerland, even reducing predation by 70 to 90%. However, this measure must necessarily be combined with other deterrent practices.
The final report
The pheromones would be attached to a medallion, thus "sending" a precise chemical signal to the wolf, scaring it away. Furthermore, the release of the chemicals would last for a total of six months. Furthermore, it has been assured that the product will not affect livestock guarding dogs in any way. Once the mountain grazing season is over, a report will be released and the results of this trial will be known.
