Level of public order
“We express our satisfaction and thank those in the Senate who listened to our observations as well as those of other trade associations to modify a first draft of the Security Decree which drastically affected knife users and manufacturers without impacting the improvement of public order, as was rightly intended. We cannot help but note, however, that despite Federcaccia's request, the distinction between carrying and transporting has not been included, as is required for firearms, which would have been a further and useful regulatory step forward.
Rewording of the amendments
This is President Massimo Buconi's immediate comment on the Senate's approval of the majority amendments to the "Security" Decree, which introduce a series of corrective measures regarding the carrying of knives. These include identical amendments presented by FdI (Lisei, first author), Lega (Dreosto, first author), and FI (Paroli, first author), as well as a reformulation of two amendments from the Autonomy Group (Durnwalder, first author).
Justified reason
Specifically, the justifiable reason requirement is also introduced for knives with blades longer than 5 cm, which in the original draft was only applicable to knives with blades longer than 8 cm. "We are now awaiting their passage in the Chamber of Deputies, but I am confident that common sense and the objective necessity of these changes will prevail," concludes the President of Federcaccia.
