Italian biathlon will once again be a protagonist at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, but not for a medal. After the silver won by the mixed relay, we return to talk about this discipline for the appeal of Rebecca Passler Upheld by the National Anti-Doping Agency's Court of Appeal. The athlete had been suspended after testing positive for letrozole on January 26th, an inhibitor normally used in the medium range to treat breast cancer.
Unknowing intake or contamination
Letrozole is considered doping because it can mask anabolic hormones. According to the Court, Rebecca Passler may have been inadvertently ingested or had her urine contaminated, which is why the so-called "fumus boni iuris" was recognized.
The note from FISI
In practice, involuntary or coincidental factors are considered to be the cause of this case. As reported by the FISI (Italian Winter Sports Federation), the biathlete from Brunico will now be eligible to participate in the Winter Olympics, which are now in full swing and are about to conclude their first week.
