Votes and meritocracy
Long live meritocracy! The Honorable's latest social media post begins with these three sarcastic words Sergio Berlato (Brothers of Italy), president of ACR and fresh from the Veneto elections, which left him speechless, having been excluded from the Regional Council. An exclusion that sounds even more jarring when you examine the numbers, as Berlato did: "Many people in politics often talk about meritocracy as a way to reward those who have achieved objectively verifiable results.".
The provincial results
The number one of the Association for Rural Culture then went into more detail about the various provincial statistics: “In the recent elections for the Veneto Regional Council, the Brothers of Italy Party achieved the following results:
In the province of Belluno, the Party obtained 18.448 votes, equal to 27,71%, and will be represented by a Regional Assessor and a Regional Councillor;
In the province of Padua, the Party obtained 59.359 votes, equal to 17,63%, and will be represented by a Regional Assessor and a Regional Councillor;
In the province of Rovigo the Party obtained 16.659 votes equal to 22,34% and will be represented by a Regional Assessor and a Regional Councillor;
In the province of Treviso the Party obtained 46.875 votes equal to 14,95% and will be represented by only one regional councilor;
In the province of Venice, the Party obtained 47.460 votes, equal to 17,78%, and will be represented by a Regional Assessor and two Regional Councillors;
In the province of Verona, the Party obtained 66.774 votes, equal to 21,83%, and will be represented by a Regional Assessor and two Regional Councillors;
In the province of Vicenza the Party obtained 57.264 votes equal to 18,50% and will be represented by only one regional councilor.".
Unavoidable questions
The conclusions of the post are quickly said: “In light of this situation, it's natural to ask ourselves some questions: what meritocratic criteria were used by the Party leaders to ensure the most equitable representation possible of all the Veneto provinces in the Regional Council and the Veneto Regional Council?".
