Double no
The adjective "historic" is often thrown around too easily, but in the case of one of the latest rulings by the Palermo Regional Administrative Court, it doesn't seem so exaggerated. A woman appealed to the Regional Administrative Court after being denied the renewal of her sporting rifle license . The reason for the denial? She had reported harassment by her ex-husband. The Prefecture also agreed, and the reasons are readily explained.
The harassment suffered
As reconstructed in this intricate case, the woman was unable to renew her gun license due to the tense climate with her ex. Moreover, the man suffers from psychiatric disorders and allegedly harassed the protagonist of the story even at her workplace (the mailbox was destroyed along with the woman's name tag). The Sicilian Regional Administrative Court (TAR), as often happens, held a different view.
Failure to evaluate
Based on the administrative ruling, it is unclear what risks convinced the Prefecture and the Court to consider the woman unreliable. Moreover, she and her ex-husband have not lived together for some time, they are not seeing each other, and no other complaints have been filed. The judges then added that the conduct must be assessed independently, considering the potential impact on the applicant's reliability in terms of gun permits.
